The Amish Mother's Secret by Diane Craver

Book Details:

Title: The Amish Mother's Secret

Series: N/A

Author: Diane Craver

Publisher: Vinspire Publishing

Pages: 261

Release Date:  December 27, 2022

Genre:  Amish Romance

Book Description:

Sometimes a beautiful miracle comes to you at exactly the wrong time…

Lindsay Prescott is forty and single when tragedy strikes. Diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer, her instinct is to right the wrongs in her life. Her unfortunate childhood with an alcoholic, verbally abusive mother drove her to break free in desperation at the age of 17. While working at a hotel along the beach on the East Coast, she met Harris Manning. He took her breath away and she gave herself to him in love.

Harris' life was already planned out for him by his wealthy parents. Falling for Lindsay had been a dream. However, compelled to wed the woman his parents chose for him, he’d left her to endure a shaky marriage.

Though Harris never knew it, Lindsay found herself pregnant when he left her with no way to care for identical triplets on her own. When the triplets were five months old, she reconnected with an Amish couple—Katie and Roman Yoder—who were unable to have children. The Yoders adopted Amy and Jenna while Lindsay kept Phoebe. She couldn’t bear to give all three babies away. In the years that followed, Katie worked hard to keep her away from her adopted daughters.

When you let go of a miracle, can you ever capture it again?

My Thoughts:  Heart Wrenching

The Amish Mother's Secret was absolutely heart wrenching. Author Diane Craver has beautifully written this story in such a way that makes the reader feel what Lindsay went through in the past as well as in her present. She doesn't sugar coat any of the feelings, pain, or frustrations that Lindsay has dealt with and is dealing with now. The story also lets the reader feel what the other characters who have also been affected by the past and present situations are feeling as they too must cope with everything. There is pain, joy and so much more as new revelations and situations continue to come up. Through it all are the messages of love, forgiveness, second chances, new beginnings, and trusting God's will, His plans for our lives, and His timing. It truly is a beautiful and moving story.

Diane Craver is a new author to me, and I really didn't know what to expect.  However, after reading The Amish Mother's Secret I guarantee that I am looking forward to reading more of her works.

Book Quotes:

Roman shrugged. “Many times, I don’t have the answers, but I pray, and God helps me with everything.”

But God is good. He is my strength, and I leave nothing to chance and everything to God.

Every Good Gift (Amish Blessings Book 3) by Kelly Irvin

Book Details:

Title:  Every Good Gift

Series: Amish Blessings Book 3

Author: Kelly Irvin

Publisher:  Zondervan

Pages:  368

Release Date:  February 7, 2023

Genre:  Amish Romance

Book Description:

During the most difficult season of her life, how could she know whether their meeting was a gift from God—or another temptation?

Maisy never expected that a Plain girl like her could have her heart stolen by an Englisch boy. But when her rumspringa ends and Maisy realizes she’s pregnant, the reality of their choices—and their differences—sets in.

Maisy knows she will never leave her faith to marry her baby’s father. But she also knows the road to acceptance as an unwed mother in an Amish community will be long and hard. To protect her family from the scandal, she goes to live with her cousin in Haven, Kansas, where she will have some solitude to figure out what kind of future she might have.

In Haven Maisy begins to find her way—thanks in no small part to Joshua Lapp, a Plain man who’s made it clear he isn’t bothered by her situation or ashamed to be seen with her, despite the bishop’s warnings. But Joshua has struggled with his faith ever since the death of his twin brother, leaving Maisy to wonder: How can two people who are so lost ever help each other discover Gott’s plans for their future?

My Thoughts:  Could Not Put It Down

Before I went to bed, I told myself I would only read one chapter. That plan went out the window the minute I began reading. The story captured me immediately and I could not put it down until I got to the very end. It was just that good.

Maisy and Joshua stole my heart right from the start and had me on an emotional roller coaster. There was so much going on with them as they worked at dealing with their situations. However, that served to draw them together as friends and kindred spirits. While not everyone was crazy about their friendship, it developed into a special bond where they could share with each other honestly and without judgment. Watching Maisy and Joshua grow in their relationship with each other and in their faith in God was absolutely beautiful, touching and inspiring.

Maisy and Joshua's story is one of love, faith, overcoming, new beginnings and hope. It is also about true repentance, accepting God's forgiveness, and seeking God's will. It also drives home the message that "we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God," and that God is the only one who can judge and forgive and whose love is endless.

All of these elements are what make Every Good Gift a truly inspiring and touching story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

Sycamore Circle (The Rumors in Ross County Series Book 2) by Shelley Shepard Gray

Book Details:

Title:  Sycamore Circle

Series: The Rumors in Ross County Book 2

Author: Shelley Shepard Gray

Publisher:  Blackstone Publishing

Pages:  296

Release Date:  February 7, 2023

Genre:  Romance

Book Description:

There’s a lot going on in Joy Howard’s life. She’s got an ex-husband who starts acting like he doesn’t want to be an ex anymore, a sixteen-year-old daughter in need of a guiding hand and a lot of rides to dance practice, more orders for paintings than she has time to paint, and a roster of tutoring clients who sometimes need far more than she can give.

What she doesn’t have is time for a new relationship.

Samuel “Bo” Beauman is a lot of things. He’s a counselor for transitioning ex-cons, a good friend to many, a construction worker, a brother and son, and even a part-time model for a high-end sportswear catalog. He’s also a man searching for redemption.

One thing he isn’t is a man in need of a girlfriend.

But none of that seems to matter when Bo hears Joy’s kind voice in a crowded coffee shop. He instantly knows she’s someone he wants to know better. The two of them hit it off—much to the dismay of practically everyone they know—but Bo doesn’t care what other people think. He feels at peace whenever he’s with Joy, and he won’t let her go without a fight.

When Joy starts getting mysterious texts and phone calls from unknown numbers, she tries to ignore it. But instead of going away, the messages escalate and Joy realizes she can’t handle it alone. But she is juggling a jealous ex-husband, a handful of students with little to lose, and a brand-new boyfriend who spent several years behind bars. Who can she trust?

My Thoughts:  Wow!

Wow! I don't even know where to begin. Sycamore Circle is just another example of author Shelley Shepard Gray's amazing writing. She has once again blown me away with another fantastic story.

Joy and Bo's story captivated my heart, and I especially loved hearing tough guy Bo using terms of endearment. (sigh) Joy and Bo each have a caring heart, but their background stories are so different. Those differences, their feelings and their uncertainties about a relationship made their story so endearing and kept me guessing just how their relationship would evolve.

The romance was just one of the things that made this such a great story. Entwined with the romance is intrigue, mystery, suspense, a light message of faith and some really great secondary characters. No element overpowers another making this a perfect combination that kept me glued to the pages.

Sycamore Circle is a truly amazing story and a great addition to the Rumors in Ross County Series. Even though it is part of a series, it contains plenty of background information from book one, Edgewater Road, that it can be read as a stand alone. It is a great read and one that I highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are strictly my own.

Then handsome, single Caleb Yutzy arrives on the scene . . .

Caleb is eager to court pretty, warm-hearted Rachael, and tells her so. But their frank conversations reveal a truth that dashes her hopes—Caleb very much wants kinner, the one thing Rachael can’t give him. Even when Caleb assures her it’s no matter,
she can’t bring herself to be so selfish. Yet love is beyond all planning, and with faith Rachael and Caleb may discover the lifetime of love they were meant to share . . .

My Thoughts:  A Tug at Your Heartstrings Story

I found Rachel's Decision to be a tug at your heartstrings story with many ups and downs. The story is one of love vs. obligations and circumstances, truths that can keep love at bay, and obstacles that turn the road to love into a bumpy ride loaded with detours. It is also a story of love and support of community and friends. However, most importantly, it is a story of faith and trusting God and His will, which has the power to overcome anything.

I fully enjoyed Rachel and Caleb's story. It had me on an emotional roller coaster, taking me from happy to sad to frustrated and to hopeful. Nevertheless, the end result was that it left me with a smile on my face.

I greatly enjoyed this wonderful Amish romance story and recommend that you add it to your TBR pile.

Take a vacation with
New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray as she explores what happens when we allow our pasts to define our futures in this story of friendship, romance, and new beginnings.

My Thoughts:  Sweet and Entertaining

Her Heart's Desire follows Mary Margaret Miller on a much needed vacation to Pinecraft, Florida. On the trip she meets Betsy and Lilly. When they discover how much they have in  common, a friendship develops between them. Another friendship forms when Mary and Jayson Rayber meet, and as they spend time together, their friendship blossoms into something more.

I absolutely loved the characters (especially Michael) and their stories. Each one was dealing with situations from their past or present which affected them in different ways. Watching each one maneuver through their friendships, feelings, struggles and circumstances was realistic and refreshing. My heart completely went out to each of them and kept me riveted to the story wanting to see what the outcome for each would be, especially when unexpected challenges got in the way.

Her Heart's Desire is an Amish romance story, but it is so much more. It is about overcoming deep hurts and betrayals, forgiveness, trusting God, and growing and changing into the person God wants you to be.  It is a sweet and entertaining read that I greatly enjoyed.

The Courtship Plan (An Amish of Marigold Novel) by Kathleen Fuller

Book Details:

Title:  The Courtship Plan

Series: An Amish of Marigold Novel Book 1

Author: Kathleen Fuller

Publisher:  Zondervan

Pages:  320

Release Date:  January 17, 2023

Genre:  Amish Romance

Book Description:

Finding a husband is serious business. And serious business requires serious planning.

Charity Raber is one of many single women who came to Birch Creek, Ohio, with one goal in mind: secure a husband from among the desperate bachelors a newspaper advertisement claimed inhabited the town. Even though that claim proved to be nothing more than a cruel prank, Charity is still hopeful that her happy ending might be within reach when she’s set up on a date with Jesse Bontrager. That is until Jesse not-so-gently shares that he has no interest in a relationship with anyone—and especially not with her.

One year later, Charity is working as a caretaker for a kind, elderly English woman in the nearby town of Marigold. She’s also working hard on a brand-new courtship plan. A plan that absolutely does not involve Jesse Bontrager. But when he moves next door and is made aware of her scheming, Charity vows to prove that her plan is foolproof. Meanwhile, Jesse is sure she’ll make a fool of herself. And for some reason he’s not willing to let that happen.

This stubborn bachelor and determined bachelorette will soon learn that their plans rarely work out as expected—but God’s plans always will.

My Thoughts:  Loved It!

Kathleen Fuller has such a way with her story telling that immediately draws you in. She also has characters that you connect with right from the start. You either love them, dislike them or go on a love/dislike roller coaster ride with how you feel about them. Such was the case with The Courtship Plan.

When I first met Charity Raber, she had me riding the roller coaster of like and dislike. However, her quirkiness and sincerity pulled me over to the like side, as did her courtship plan. When she began putting her plan in motion I found myself laughing out loud more than once. Charity was quite sure her plan was foolproof, but Jesse Bontrager thought otherwise. It was a good thing that he was there to save her from herself and her plan. And that's when things got even more interesting and drew me deeper into Charity and Jesse's story.

I absolutely loved this story! It made me laugh and it made me cry. It also had an element that touched me deeply because of how applicable it is to every day life. It has to do with taking responsibility, making things right no matter how much time has passed and forgiveness. That along with the romance, humor, great characters and the twists and turns of Charity and Jesse's journey made this amazing story a definite must read.

Something Old, Something New by Amy Clipston

Book Details:

Title:  Something Old, Something New

Series: n/a

Author: Amy Clipston

Publisher:  Thomas Nelson

Pages:  333

Release Date:  January 3, 2023

Genre:  Contemporary Christian Romance

Book Description:

Sometimes treasure can be found where you least expect it.

In the decade since high school graduation, Christine Sawyer has realized her dream of opening Treasure Hunting Antique Mall, the place where shoppers find gems that are new to them. Between her store, her house, and her role as a doting aunt, she’s happy with her life—if a bit lonely. But she’s used to being less lucky in love than her fraternal twin sister. Britney was always the popular one, the head cheerleader who dated the homecoming king and quarterback, while Christine stayed in the shadows.

Brent Nicholson is still trying to come to grips with the shambles his life has become. After leading his football team to a state championship, he suffered a career-ending injury. Now he’s lost his construction business thanks to his so-called best friend. So when his great-aunt Midge asks for his help readying her home to put it on the market, the opportunity to spend time with his biggest fan is a balm to his bruised soul.

But the antiques Brent finds in his aunt’s house lead him to an unexpected partnership with Christine. After being blind to her for so many years, is it too late for the former high school jock to win the heart of the self-proclaimed “nerdy twin”?

As they shift through items of the past, Christine and Brent learn to let go of the pieces they don’t want to bring into the future—and realize the value of what’s in front of them today.

My Thoughts:  Charming Love Story

Something Old, Something New was an absolutely charming love story. It kept me completely engrossed as I followed Christine and Brent’s story all the while wondering how they’d be able to overcome all the obstacles in their way; obstacles that came in the form of people, past history and situations, family, and even their own plans and insecurities.

Christine and Brent were wonderfully kind and giving, and I desperately wanted to see them overcome all of the stumbling blocks in order for their relationship to grow. However, every so often the obstacles would cause them to take one step forward and two steps backwards leaving them right back in the same spot where they started. Each time this happened I was left wondering how in the world they’d be able to finally move forward in order for their relationship to grow. And that is just one of the things that made this such a charming and engaging story.

In contrast to the characters that contributed to the obstacles facing Christine and Brent, many others helped add to the charm of the story. Brent’s Aunt Midge was one of them. I absolutely loved her right from the start. Her spunkiness, boldness of speaking her mind and her matchmaking efforts kept me completely amused. On more than one occasion, Christine and Brent’s friends, Pam and Steve, as well as Christine’s young nieces significantly added to the charm and amusement.

If you like a sweet romance that combines great characters, not so nice characters, overcoming obstacles to reach a happily ever after sprinkled with charm, amusement and surprises sprinkled in, Something Old, Something New is definitely the one for you. It will not disappoint.
