Gift shop owner Sarah Morgan is helping Justine Hendricks, a young scholar, with a research project—but then a nineteenth-century logbook and diary entrusted to the student disappear! Since Justine is part of a group volunteering at the Port Hope Lighthouse, there are plenty of nearby suspects who could be responsible for the theft. To make matters worse, rumors are swirling that the lighthouse is haunted—a thing Sarah doesn’t believe for a moment.

Soon Sarah and Justine are drawn into the compelling story of a nineteenth-century woman who may well have been Michigan’s first official female lighthouse keeper. Sarah will need all her sleuthing skills if she is to uncover the surprising connections between the modern-day theft, the strange happenings at the lighthouse, and this dauntless woman from the past.

My Thoughts: Wonderful Cozy Mystery

A Lighthouse Legacy is a wonderful cozy mystery that kept me guessing the entire time. The dual timeline is fascinating and really helps pull the story together. The pacing is just right, and the character interactions show a wonderful community and add much to the story. It blends intrigue, faith, humor, and a touch of romance, making the book a truly enjoyable read.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, this one is definitely for you. While it is part of the Gift Shop Mysteries Series, you can read it as a standalone. However, I highly recommend the entire series. You won't be disappointed.

Hope for the Heartbroken: A 52-Week Walk with God for Those Living with Grief by Karen Ehman, Rugh Schwenk, and Amber Emily Smith

Title: Hope for the Heartbroken

Authors: Karen Ehman, Ruth Schwenk, Amber Emily Smith

Publisher: Zondervan

Release Date: September 15, 2026

Pages: 352

Genre: Christian Grief & Bereavement/Journal Writing Self-Help

Book Description:

If you've experienced loss, then you've had days when sorrow overshadows every step, nights when the pain seems all-consuming, and moments when you feel utterly alone in your grief. What if, in the midst of your sorrow, you found something sacred? Hope for the Heartbroken reaches into those often-unseen moments. It is your companion for those vulnerable spaces, offering gentle reminders that God is present in the heartbreak and is grieving alongside you.

Whether you're mourning the death of a loved one, grieving the loss of a relationship or season of life, walking through a painful divorce, or simply struggling to name the sorrow you carry, Hope for the Heartbroken offers a gentle, biblical path forward.

Each week follows a simple, healing rhythm designed to walk readers through layers of processing grief:

  • Day 1—Ponder: Read a heartfelt devotion grounded in Scripture
  • Day 2—Pen: Answer guided reflection questions that invite honest self-evaluation
  • Day 3—Pray: Write a prayer, expressing sorrow and hope before God
  • Day 4—Pause: Process your feelings to position you best for spiritual growth
  • Day 5—Pathway: Take an intentional step toward healing or self-care

Authors Karen Ehman, Ruth Schwenk, and Amber Emily Smith—friends whose hearts have been knit together by the gruesome yet grace-filled threads of grief—have personally endured profound heartache, including miscarriages; the death of a spouse, a child, and multiple family members in a short timeframe; physical and emotional abuse; broken friendships; job losses; and much more. They know that grief and healing do not follow a linear path, that many people are well-meaning but often say the wrong thing, and that some days the ache feels just as sharp as it did in the beginning. With honesty, compassion, and deep faith, they've created a resource to gently walk with others through the ongoing, sacred work of grieving.

This devotional is a meaningful guide for your own experience with grief or a thoughtful way to support someone you love during times of loss, holidays, or difficult anniversaries. Hope for the Heartbroken is a reminder that you are not alone and that healing, though gradual, is possible.

My Thoughts: Wonderful

Grief is such a difficult season to navigate. Even as God heals and comforts, some days may still be difficult. Throughout this devotional, the authors have done an exceptional job of offering hope and healing even in the most difficult of times.

The weekly readings are so spot-on and helpful. They include Bible references, journal suggestions, reflections, and so much more. It is a must-read for anyone who has experienced these situations or for someone you know who has dealt with them.

Lessons in Love (The Heart of the Amish) by Kelly Irvin

Book Details:

Title: Lessons in Love

Series: The Heart of the Amish

Author: Kelly Irvin

Publisher: Barbour Fiction

Release Date: November 1, 2026

Pages: 256

Genre: Amish Romance

Book Description:

Lenora Byler's life feels stuck in sacrifice—first for her grandfather, now for her brother’s family. Just as she rediscovers joy in teaching twenty lively students, her sister-in-law’s dangerous pregnancy drags her back into caregiving. Torn between duty and passion, Lenora finds unexpected purpose in tutoring widower Malcolm King’s two children. Their bond awakens feelings she thought she’d buried, but Malcolm’s grief and fear of loving again keep him distant. With everyone pulling at her heart, Lenora must lean on faith to uncover God’s plan. Only through courage, sacrifice, and trust can a love powerful enough to heal be embraced.

My Thoughts: Wonderful

Grief and guilt don't mix well, but that's exactly what Malcolm King is experiencing. They keep him functioning on autopilot while those around him try to move forward. The last thing on his mind is a new beginning.

Lenora Byler is on autopilot, too. She runs her brother's household without moving forward for herself. Things begin to change when a new opportunity comes her way, putting her and Malcolm in each other's path and sparking a growing relationship. Situations get in the way, making it seem that nothing more will develop between them. Watching things change and develop was a joy to read, and their story of hope, healing, family, love, and second chances is one I highly recommend.
