Scent of Hope (Call of the Wild, Book 2) by Susan May Warren

Book Details:

Title: Scent of Hope

Series: Call of the Wild book 2

Author: Susan May Warren

Publisher: Revell

Release Date: June 2, 2026

Pages: 344

Genre: Christian Mystery & Suspense Romance

Book Description:

Two broken hearts. One deadly mission. And just one avalanche dog standing between them and a killer.

Harley Tatum made a vow to never return to Copper Mountain, Alaska, where a drug dealer destroyed her family and the man she loved walked away. But when that same criminal escapes and justice calls her name, she has no choice but to face everything she buried.

Jericho Bowie remembers things differently.
She left him. And he's spent years wondering why. Now Harley needs his search-and-rescue dog, Orlando, to track a fugitive through treacherous mountain terrain--and Jericho refuses to let her go alone. Not again.

But as they push deep into the frozen wilderness, the hunter becomes the hunted. Old feelings resurface at the worst possible time, and survival depends on two people who don't know if they can trust each other--or their own hearts.

My Thoughts: Wow!

Wow! This is absolutely fantastic! The suspense and intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat. Harley and Jericho's interactions had me super frustrated one minute and smiling the next. These two had so much to work through, which was key to their working together as they overcame past hurts and mistakes while working on the mission at hand.

The balance of romance, intrigue, overcoming, and forgiveness was spot on. The faith messages were so impactful that they not only had a huge impact on Harley and Jericho but also on me, as they had me reflecting on multiple occasions.

This fast-paced romantic suspense is an absolute must-read that I highly recommend.

Book Description:

When life seems weighed down by challenges, there are always pillars of enduring hope and love to be discovered.

Lily Mae Dodge flees Wyoming by night to find her mother, who sent her west on an orphan train ten years ago. After she's arrested in Chicago, help comes from a man with a rare vision impairment whom she only just met on a train. Francis Basnett is a roustabout for the famous Hagenbeck-Wallace circus, where he helps Lily gain employment. Their friendship grows into more, and it seems Lily is closer than ever to finding her mother. . .until the night a rogue troop train slams into the stalled circus train, killing dozens and splintering hope.

My Thoughts: A True Gem

When reading a new author and a genre I don't normally read, I find myself unsure of what to expect. In this case, I was completely bowled over by this wow of a story.

Lily's story grabbed me from the start, and when Frances came into the picture, I was even more taken in. The characters are well-developed, and the plot twists kept me turning pages.

The other things that kept me turning pages were the settings and the events that took place. Having come from those areas of Indiana, I was wowed by all that took place, which I had never heard of. The historical aspects captivated me completely, and I could understand how much research the author, Naomi Musch, did in writing the book. It came through vividly and made me feel as if I were right there experiencing everything with the characters.

However, even those who didn't come from the areas in the book are sure to be enthralled by this story of faith, overcoming, forgiveness, family, love, and new beginnings. It is a true gem of a story.

The Island Bookshop by Roseanna M. White

Book Details:

Title: The Island Bookshop

Author: Roseanna M. White

Publisher: Guideposts

Release Date: July 1, 2025

Pages: 304

Genre: Contemporary Christian Romance

Book Description:

When Kennedy Marshall sets off for a prestigious career in the city, she leaves behind the sunlit shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks—and runs from a love she believes she can never have. With her sister, Lara, managing their grandmother’s beloved island bookshop, Kennedy feels confident she’s escaped the past. But when Lara is suddenly injured, Kennedy is drawn back into the island’s warm embrace—and bittersweet memories she thought she’d buried forever.

For Wes Armstrong, the Outer Banks is more than home—it’s his anchor. Building a successful family business was supposed to bring stability, but life has been anything but steady since his wife’s passing. Haunted by past regrets and facing a life-changing decision, Wes is determined to make the right choice for his family’s future. Yet Kennedy’s unexpected return stirs up old emotions and mistakes he thought he’d put to rest.

As hidden family secrets surface and long-buried truths come to light, Kennedy and Wes must navigate the delicate tides of forgiveness, second chances, and the unspoken love that still lingers between them. Can they find the courage to rewrite their story and create a new future on the island’s shifting sands?

My Thoughts: Absolutely Wonderful

This is an absolutely wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

It follows Kennedy and Wes as they reconnect. When they find themselves spending more time together, their relationship begins to blossom. Added to that is a bit of a mystery that sends them on a search into the past. The result is a story of love, family, second chances, forgiveness, and new beginnings with a touch of intrigue.

The addition of the dual timeline is stellar. The references to the past were on point and added so much to the story. Along with that are the descriptions of Avon and the Outer Banks. They created such a vivid picture in my mind as if I were right there. Add to that the multiple references to my favorite childhood book, and you have a winner of a story that is an absolute must-read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Guideposts for providing me with a copy of this book. All comments and opinions are entirely my own and voluntary.

In a world filled with hardships and trials, it’s easy to get discouraged. Gain courage for today through a unique study of Peter’s first letter to persecuted Christians. You’ll remember God’s promises—including who He has made you to be.

1 Peter is part of the TEND Your Soul Bible Study Series. TEND is a guided journaling method that equips you to:

  • Take time to pray
  • Examine the Scriptures
  • Notice the lessons
  • Do what it says

Whether you’re new to the Bible or you’ve read it for years, this fresh and easy four-step approach to inductive Bible study empowers you to listen and respond to God through personal discovery. Author Mariel Davenport shares from her own experience how this simple relational Bible study method can lead to spiritual transformation.

Perfect for individuals or groups, this five-week study helps you embrace your eternal inheritance and God-given identity.

My Thoughts: Wonderful!

This is a wonderful study guide that uses the TEND system. While this system is new to me, it totally makes sense. The system helps one understand the Scriptures being studied and apply what is learned to life.

The TEND system involves the following: Take time to pray, Examine the Scriptures, Notice the lessons, and Do what it says. This helps one focus on a few verses at a time, reflect on them, and make an action plan on how to apply the Word to daily life.

This study of 1 Peter is absolutely fantastic. However, the system can be used to further study other books of the Bible.

The book has added resources, which include how to choose a Bible translation and other resources. All of these factors make this a must-read Bible study resource.
